This introductory lecture is ideal for beginners interested in where to get started with growing your own fruit trees (and shrubs) in your yards. Fruit trees not only provide us with food but with all of their flowers they also benefit our pollinator friends. Topics covered include: choosing your tree and where to plant it, pruning to encourage fruit, and ways to prevent and address common problems, such as pests and diseases.
This demonstration is for those wanting to grow fruit trees and don’t know where to start in the endless sea of information.
This lecture is delivered as part of Kitchener Public Library’s 85 Green Learning Garden in partnership with the Kitchener Master Gardeners and Reep Green Solutions. It is part of a series of workshops that are a companion to the City of Kitchener’s Sustainable Urban Forest Strategy, focused on increasing awareness and how to plant/care for trees.
