- Emily Mininger, facilitator and one of the founders of KW Peace, is leaving in September. She is moving to Toronto September 1st to begin a 1 year Public Relations- Corporate Communications post grad certificate at Centennial College
- This means we need a new facilitator! All that is involved is sending out reminder emails and taking meeting minutes for our quarterly potlucks. If you’re interested in stepping up, please let Emily know!
- Waterloo Region Nonviolence (formerly Nonviolence Festival)
- Annual Day in the Park is Sunday, July 9, 12-5. All are welcome. There will be food (falafels and ice cream), music, kids activities, and lots of great community groups!
- Amnesty International
- was at the Multicultural festival and will be at the Nonviolence Day in the Park on July 9th. They try to get the public to sign their petitions
- PeaceHub
- going to be publishing a pamphlet with the local Quaker friends group.
- Also working on getting a local currency going with Kindred Credit Union. Trying to find businesses to get on board. Going to have a conference with Coin in the Netherlands. Hopefully will be a larger scale than BarterWorks.
- Stirling Social Justice Group
- focusing on indigenous issues. The walk from Kitchener to Ottawa went well, lots of support. They went to support Bill C-62 and educate people along the way.
- Animal Save
- have a petition going to ban fur farming. There’s a big fur farming protest on July 9th as well.
- Mo is having climate convos. Will be bringing What the Health to the Princess in the fall, talks about animal agriculture and health. Will also be taking Cowspiracy out west.
- Divest
- in the fall, they’re working with faith communities to repurpose their buildings and think of ways to use the space throughout the week
- Food not Bombs
- need drivers. Email kitchenerfoodnotbombs@gmail.com if you’re interested. Can sign up for half hour shifts, and only need to commit once!
- Council of Canadians
- were at the multicultural festival. Had an event with Catherine Fife and Stacy Danckert to talk about pharmacare, had 30-40 people.
- Conscience Canada
- advocate to give Canadians the right to conscientious objection with regards to taxes and request that objectors can divert their taxes from the military to other services. Have been running since 1979.
- Social Planning Council of Cambridge and North Dumfries
- Had an anti-poverty symposium that was well attended.
- Social Development Centre Waterloo Region
- currently working on a project strong neighbourhoods for decent lives. They’re getting input across KW to create an assessment framework to monitor quality of life and locational factors (what facilities are nearby, groceries, etc).
- Waterloo Region Environment Network – trying to do a similar thing as us and form connections between groups, outside of the environment. We should connect with them.

- 4-4:30: Mingle, registration
- 4:30-5:30: Panel
- 5:30-5:45: Pass the mic to each group, get 1 or 2 sentences on “What does Peace in KW Look like to me”
- 5:45-7: Introduce groups and, get food, go to discussion based on “theme”
- 7-7:15: break for coffee and dessert
- 7:15-8:15 round 2 on discussions

- Marg Nally – spiritual director at St. Johns Kitchen, Working Centre, Mary’s Place. Frames modern life in a spiritual context (probably gone)
- Tim Cody from Trinity United (probably gone)
- Michael Hackbush – House of Friendship
- Bruce Sweet – CJI
- Melissa Webster – part of Alive program, living in an environment of poverty. Spoke at the antipoverty forum and was great
- Trish Hennessy – has data around poverty and inequality

- Need to get the public engaged, so public directed
- Need speakers who can emphasize intersectionality and connections
- Please email your speaker suggestions to Emily ASAP, with a description of why you think they would be a good speaker, no later than Wednesday, July 12.

- Bob paid $125 to Indie Serve Networks. We now have a permanent site, and they are no longer charging us to host. Only have to pay the domain name.

- Future of KW Peace
- Should we have more frequent potlucks?
- We need to connect with more groups, and more diverse groups. More mutual promotion and partnership
- Social Development Centre
- What would be helpful for us? They can offer access to space for now (though building is slated for redevelopment in 6 months).
- They also can have volunteers helping out
- Trudy has an idea for getting funding to develop a hub space, will follow up
