What is the vision of this event
-
To strengthen our relationships as groups, as well as get the public involved/ showcase what we’re doing

Maybe as groups this will give us an idea of what people want to get involved with, where there’s energy
-
Make sure we focus on positive energy- we can make a difference!

-

Other options – Registry Theatre, KPL?
Registry is more theater like, not well suited. KPL probably has a significant fee.
-
City hall is still 1st choice
-
Stirling – still under reno and we’d need insurance
-
Back ups – council chambers in city hall or Queen Street Commons, if we did it in the evening
UPDATE: City hall rotunda is not available. Other alternatives suggested were Victoria Park Pavilion, City hall Council Chambers, or Queen Street Commons. Need to find venue ASAP. Still important to people that we stick with the Oct 1st date to coincide with international days of nonviolence

INVITATION TEXT
For community members:
KW Peace presents: Perspectives on Peace: Local Approaches to Positive Change
KW Peace invites local groups and community members working for positive change in the Kitchener Waterloo Community to join us for a day of sharing, collaboration, and action. The event will be held on October 1st at _________ from 9:30am-4:00pm.
There’s so much positive action happening in KW and we want to celebrate it by getting together and learning from each other! Come prepared to be inspired by the incredible people working our out community, and share your own work and passions to inspire others. Although our work may seem very different on the surface, all of us are working to improve life for those around us, battle injustice, and create positive change in Kitchener-Waterloo.
The event will begin with Keynote Speaker Dr. Simon Dalby, CIGI chair, whose work focuses climate change, political ecology, geopolitics, global security, environmental change, militarization, and the spatial dimensions of governance. Then after the speaker we will have sharing by local groups about their goals and projects, and collaborative visioning for the future of our community. Lunch is provided at no cost.
This event is put on by KW Peace, a collective of peace and social justice groups passionate about working together and finding ways to encourage collaboration in our community. Please visit our website at kwpeace.ca, where we also have an event calendar that advertises events related to peace and social justice. Check out what’s happening, or post your own events!
To register, please fill out the form at kwpeace.ca. Contact Emily Mininger (e.mininger@gmail.com) if you have any questions.

We are you as a local community group to be a part of our event. We are looking for groups who are interested in sharing a bit about their group’s work either in small discussion groups or by giving a 5 minute explanation in front of a group. We also need discussion facilitators as well, but that is optional. If you’d like to participate or have questions, please contact Emily Mininger (e.mininger@gmail.com). Please RSVP by September 1st.
